What Happened to the Coaches Who Allowed Their Players to Have Sex?
A website analyzed the different strategies adopted by the 32 National Teams
The influence sex has in the football players´ performance has been a controversial matter for years. However, there is not a sole vision about this. Those who are more reticent believe it causes negative effects, others believe that if practiced excessively, it may make the player feel tired; while those who are more permissive believe it is a relaxing activity.
In World Cup Brazil 2014, coaches have expressed their opinions in their teams. Some of them allowed their players to have sex, other did not, and some other took intermediate measures.
In order to determine the performance of the teams considering the adopted measures, the website Quartz.com divided the different teams depending on their strategies regarding sex.
Coaches of Mexico, Chile, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Russia banned sex. The first two, Miguel Herrera and Jorge Sampaoli reached the round of 16, while the other two, Safet Sucic and Fabio Capello were eliminated in the first round.
On the other hand, those teams which allowed their players to have sex were Uruguay, England, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Australia, Netherlands, US and Germany.
England, Spain, Italy and Australia reached the round of 16, while Uruguay, US and Switzerland reached the quarterfinals, and two of them, Netherlands and Germany got into the finals.
The website also defined as "complicated" the policies from Belgium, Brazil, France, Costa Rica and Nigeria.
That group was called "complicated" since there are particular cases in it. For example, Costa Rica´s coach, Jorge Luis Pinto did not allow his players to have sex until the second round. In France, the doctor considers sex as a "relaxing" activity for football players and the conditions are the frequency and time of intimacy.
Nigeria allows wives but not girlfriends and Brazilians are allowed to have sex as long as it is not acrobatic, as expressed Felipe Scolari. On the other hand, Belgium´s coach, Marc Wilmots banned his players from having sex just during the first three weeks of the tournament.
Lastly, the report mentions national teams in which their concept about sex in yet unknown: Argentina, Colombia, Cameroon, Japan, Algeria, Croatia, Equator, Greece, Honduras, Iran, Ivory Coast, Portugal, Ghana and South Korea. From all those just the Argentinean and Colombian are still on the road.
