La junta directiva del Premio Pulitzer otorgó una "mención especial" a la adolescente cuyo video de la detención y asesinato de George Floyd a manos de un policía desató protestas en todo el mundo contra la violencia racista.
Darnella Frazier, de 18 años, fue reconocida en la ceremonia en la que se anunciaron los prestigiosos premios de periodismo 2021 por su filmación del asesinato de Floyd en mayo de 2020, a manos de un oficial de policía de Minneapolis.

Frazier fue premiada por "grabar valientemente el asesinato de George Floyd, un video que desató protestas contra la brutalidad policial a través del mundo y que subrayó el rol crucial de los ciudadanos en la búsqueda de los periodistas por verdad y justicia", indicó la junta directiva.
El personal del diario Star Tribune de Minneapolis recibió el premio en la categoría de noticias de último minuto por su cobertura de la muerte de Floyd y sus repercusiones.
